Another step in the Sino-Congolese cooperation

23 June 2019

Two new agreements have just been signed and commitments made on June 23, 2019, in Beijing, China.

This is what emerged from the audience that the Chinese Minister for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi granted to his Congolese counterpart Jean Claude GAKOSSO in the company of the Minister of Development, Territorial Equipment and Public Works, Jean Jacques BOUYA.

This meeting took place, in prelude to the meeting of African coordinators of the Sino African Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) in which this Congolese ministerial delegation participates.

It is to mark the strategic character of Sino-Congolese cooperation that the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi held discussions, on June 23, 2019, in Beijing, with his Congolese counterpart of foreign affairs, cooperation and Congolese of the diaspora, Jean-Claude GAKOSSO, in the company of the Minister of Development, Territorial Equipment and Public Works, Jean Jacques BOUYA.

This very fruitful audience led to the signing of two agreements: the first relating to economic and technical cooperation, with the cancellation of a debt of 130 million Yuan, or approximately 10 billion 790 million CFA francs.

The second on the establishment of a Confucius space at the Lycée de la Révolution. A donation of 300 million yuan, or about 25 billion CFA francs has been granted.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, the two sides welcomed the unique views on issues of common interest at international and pan-African level.

Congo and China agreed to get involved in new bases of cooperation dictated by the signing of the agreement to restructure Congo's debt to China, signed on April 29, 2019.

Taking into account this new situation, it was agreed to relaunch socio-industrial projects ahead of which is the Pointe-Noire Special Economic Zone and other cooperation projects suspended for obvious reasons.

These include the digitization of Congolese national television and the third phase of national telecommunications coverage.

As a double pilot country for production capacity and a member of the “Belt and Road initiative” dear to President Xi Jinping, the Congo will benefit from other cooperation projects in the form of direct investment with appropriate development models.

The two Congolese ministers came out satisfied with having reached a first objective, that of having brought the voice of the Congo to this high level of diplomacy in the Great Empire.

There remain, of course, two other objectives to be achieved, namely, the meeting of FOCAC coordinators in Beijing and the first Sino-African Economic and Trade Exhibition in Changsha.
