The Sembé- Sounké - Ntam road is completed

13 June 2019

The Minister of Development, Territorial Equipment and Public Works, Jean Jacques Bouya, at the head of a delegation of experts and technicians from the departments involved in the construction of the second segment Sembé- Souanké – Ntam- Cameroon border, visited this site on June 13, 2019.

Executed at 98%, the development and tarring of this second 143km long segment has been made into two segments namely Sembé- Souanké-80.6 km and Souanké - Ntam -Cameroon border-62.8 km.

To this second segment, there is the Ntam-Alati ramp over 28 km, to the delight of local residents and road users. “For a short distance to Ouesso every week we used to pay 17.000 francs. But today, thanks to the road we can make a round trip without any problem and the ticket is no longer expensive as before. We now pay 5.000 or 6.000 francs per passenger. We do not know how to express our joy. We say thank you to the President of the Republic Denis Sassou Nguesso” they suggested.

Satisfied with the work carried out by the Chinese company Sino Hydro under the supervision of the CIRA consulting engineer and the manufacturer's compliance with contractual deadlines , Minister Jean Jacques Bouya believes that Congolese, in general, and the people of this part of the country in particular, efforts and strategies to boost economic activities must be multiplied in order to support the efforts made and the will of decision-makers both at national and sub-regional level .

“Launched in March 2017, the development and tarring on the 2nd segment of the Ketta-Ntam road is almost complete. The light works that remain are sanitization and cleaning of the site. A month later, I think it will all be over and the President of the Republic will be able to inaugurate it,” revealed Minister Jean Jacques Bouya.

Located at the extreme northwest of the department of Congo Sangha, the sub-regional integration road Ketta - Sembé- Souanké - Ntam -Cameroon border was not without challenges.

Climatic conditions and difficulties in transporting materials to the site are to be considered in such a gigantic structure.

Cutting through Cameroonian territory by 13 km, the road was cropped in a swampy area, requiring enormous financial and material resources. Said the Minister of Development, Territorial Equipment and Public Works, Delegated Contracting Authority, Jean Jacques Bouya.

Minister Jean Jacques Bouya has also stigmatized the behavior of logging companies which do not respect the tonnage of their vehicles to preserve this asset of common interest. “The government will be very firm and will take firm decisions against these companies that do not respect the tonnage. This road is built at 13 axles. These vehicles load up to fifty (50) tons or even eighty (80) tons which is not normal for the road. They even started destroying the primers of the road and fortunately, the departmental authorities arrested them to bring them to order. There is a company that is deploying to set up a weighing center to control all of this” emphasized Minister Jean Jacques Bouya.

Sixteen (16) Congolese engineers, including five (5) girls qualified in bridges and roads, lent a helping hand to Sino Hydro.

Deeply moved by the presence on the site of these young workers, the Minister of Development, Territorial Equipment and Public Works has   asked the company to take care of them.

Funded by the African Development Bank, the Ketta -Sembé - Souanké - Ntam – Cameroon border road is part of the strengthening of the national road network and contributes to connecting the Republics of Congo and Cameroon by land.
